5/4/2003 10:43:20 PM|||PaPa|||i remember the first time i heard it, it was on Z-Rock of all places, they were having the weekly top 50 countdown, and it debuted at number 15, it was different from most of the metal they were usually playing on Z-Rock, it was Smells Like Teen Spirit, the first time i heard it, the next week it went all the way to number one, everyone at my middle school was talking about Nirvana and how everyone loved the song, then the flood gates opened, dozens of bands from the "new" grunge era were coming out of the woodwork, it seemed that every semi-popular band from the NW was getting record deals, one of the side effects of this music revolution was that the hair bands from the late 80's got the lid put on their coffins by the grunge era bands, and so had all the boy bands like New Kids gotten the lid put on them also, it was just history repeating itself...............
............ now today we have just gotten over a era of boy bands, and now the new hair bands of the 90's and 00's are in control of the airwaves, the nu-metal bands have replaced the hair bands of the 80's, but where is the new music revolution to come from, where in this overly commercial environment of radio and record company conglomerates are the new music pioneers to arise from, well i dont' know if i am the only one who thinks this, but i'm guna go out on a limb here, i think that the new revolution could be from the "christian rock" scene, yes yes i know, there are lots of really overly commercial "chrsitian bands", and i'm not talking about the stuff they play on K-LOVE, that is just celine dion with some christian themes, i'm talking about the stuff played on stations like the Eagle up in the metroplex, stuff played on 91.7 here in san antonio on sunday nights, and the thing is that not every song they play has christian themes, some of it is just dumb pop songs, others are just positive songs, and there are some that have christian themes, but who cares, its great music, and at least its not the same dribble that clear channel plays every day on their stations, its different, most of it is pure, and it rocks...........
.........so hopefully i am right, "christian rock" is where the new revolution is at, but only time will tell, hopefully the conglomerates have not adulterated the national music scene to stop another musical revolution to take place..........
